Sleep Now Child

Tomorrow’s another day, when
this present is dead and done
In reality one rotation, on
earths path around the sun
The position can be calculated,
but what lies in store unknown
Our planet’s measurable, not
unpredictable like skin and bone

And what happened in the past,
ripples on through today
Unnoticed in black space,
random events still come our way
Set forth in motion, from an
indivisible speck of creation
Seeded is life, seeded is death,
seeded by quantum vibration

Does evolution even matter,
is what we see, what we get
A generation tries find purpose,
then hands over to the next
Accumulations of knowledge,
with caveats of past mistakes
Our monkey business perhaps,
one condition we cannot shake

Are we simply apex animals,
who developed higher brains
Beasts of untold genius, primal
instinct runs through our veins
Intelligence driving us mad,
at odds with ethics and morals
A fixation on mortality, conflicts
of minds causing quarrels

What is consciousness, from
which dimension do we view
Electric signals in our heads,
or cosmic portals seeping through
Wherever this source comes from,
and nobody knows for sure
So many gods and theories,
small wonder life’s obscure

Cryptic forces build reality,
but not readily understood
Dark energy, Higgs fields,
the shape of Genomes in our blood
Crucified by curiosity, because
of our advanced minds
Is the price of being too clever,
really just making us blind

What brings manifestation,
should we look for reason at all
Why not sheer oblivion, how
come an infinite large and small
Born to die is simple, living
forever way too complex
Does truth lie in the medium,
where chosen ones intersect

Where are you Jesus
Where are you Muhammad
Where are you God
Where are you Buddha
Where are you Allah
I’m wide awake,
in this land of nod

I honestly don’t know if it’s us that are asleep or them, but I feel awake, most of the time anyway, if not pretty vacant inside, cheers David

Intriguing read, David. Much to think about. There's a lot of truth in what you say and ask. IMHO with out limited processors (brains / minds) we want to be specific so we can be sure and secure in things that need to be observered and considered in their expended form to become comprehendable. Just a thought. Enjoyed the read. Write On! I'm following your poetry now. :-) Bill

Thank you Bill, your comment is very relevant to my poems, I do see the beauty of reality, and for most people that’s probably enough and will stop there, but sometimes when that veneer is scratched, a whole different reality suddenly appears, questioning our original perspective, that’s what intelligence does, I am what I am, I’m not out to corrupt what people believe, I just point out that I don’t see it the same way, cheers David

Wow David, you are tempting profoundly in this one. Or at least tempting profoundlier than usual. Lots to think about... Have you ever listened to "The Galaxy Song" from Monty Python's movie "The Meaning of Life"? The video is worth a look see. Thanks as always David...

I’m familiar with the song Jeff, I think John Cleese uses it to get a live liver donation, from some (woman) madcap stuff, but the words in the song make a lot of sense, “there’s bugger all down here on earth” I see your connection, sometimes I need to point out the insanity that intelligence brings, cheers David

Thoughtful observations David. I'll dwell on this awhile. Thank you for sharing! Linda

Heya Linda, perhaps not too long, one could go quite insane trying to figure out reality, and absolute purpose for our universe and humanity, but I like to tackle the bigger picture, which gives me reason in itself, cheers David

I like this it is thought provoking. Perhaps we are too undeveloped to see the creator. In this land of nod we are too distracted with the wrong things.

Thank you Karen, a lot of distractions and so many questions come with human intelligence, I’m agnostic myself so I try keep an open mind, but whomever or whatever is pulling the strings, I’m in the dark, yet still feel compelled to ask searching questions thank you so much for stopping by, cheers David
