Sister's Silent Witness
Never one to stand silent in the face of unfairness
Speak out, act, do that which is just
Yet in my innocence I had no words to paint a picture
And in my frailty I did not stand a chance
Small and slight in my youth
I could not act to stop her abuse
Standing shell-shocked I stared blankly at the scene
Of never ending violence unfolding before me
A silent witness, I marveled at your bravery
You faced her wrath in order to protect me
Had I been able, sister
I would have shattered her with my outrage
Had I been able, sister
I would have just swept her away
But you and I, we survived
And all was not lost, for your bravery was a gift
Of a burning passion running soul deep
To fight for those who cannot fight for themselves
