Simple Pleasures
Three waves blew past
My two arms stretched wide
With one word in my head: Haven!
And to you alone shall I confide
The tide brought a whisper to my ear
"A simple pleasure I give to you, my dear"
An uphill steep each man is forced to climb
And atop that mount is a rare moment of daze
When you glimpse your Pain lamenting below
And feel the breeze brushing at your face
Empty your mind but don't shut it close
To the simple pleasures under the mountain's nose
The rigors of life may yet sink you low
Deep down away from the starlit skies
But twirling and curling in the open meadow
Are vivid blossoms pleasing to thy eyes
Down in the velds also, that beautiful haze
These simple pleasures often elude my days
