Shame, so true a story, such an involved life cycle to life for hours only. At school it was a craze to keep silkworms. The same LIFE SPAN with flying ants - good luck in the contest. Love and hugs, Jennifer.

Jennifer, they say in the countries where the silkworm (a moth especially bred to make the silk in captivity) is kept that they boil the silk cocoon while the insect is still alive and inside then the people will eat them or fry them up and eat them. I am guessing that they have to let part of them go through the whole lifecycle so that they will continue to be silkworms. Thanks for the visit and the nice review. Sara K

I never thought of it this way, another animal exploited by man!

Yes, sometimes we don't think about it from the insect or animal's point of view. Thanks for the kind review. Sara K

IE, well, we got a deluge of rain Wednesday night which flooded the play porch and the basement. I hope to get someone in today to give me a price on getting the work done since I am no longer able to get it done myself. A few months or a year or two at my age makes the biggest difference. Sara K

Sad, Anne-Lise, that it is that valuable. Cotton is from a plant and can be used for clothes so why the silk. Sara K

That is somehow melancholic and sad, precious silk being extracted ~ while the life of a silkworm lost in the abyss. You've cleverly portrayed that in a few words, dear Sara. Wonderfully done for the contest, I particularly loved that last line, it's so deep and poignant "with an enormous hunger hatched to die"... best wishes for the contest and sending light to you always.

Poignant and sad as the larvae give themselves for precious silk. So well done, Sara! I think there is a stunning lesson in your words. Best wishes for the contest! Blessings and prayers.

Thank you, Andrea, for the nice review. I never knew until I looked it up that they had to kill the silkworm inside the cocoon to get the silk thread. Sara K
