Silent Fires

And like that, the mind flashed on
The light was slowly dulling and the darkness was winning
Crushed into sooty shadows
Thoughts spewed from the gloom
Glowing so pessimistically dry
As if by Hades the darkness was fulsome

The quiet rendered all but peace within
Stabbing into the skin
The pinprick of realization
The drive for recognition
But the sudden snap of sicklied inspiration
Transformed the atmospheric epiphany
Overwrought yet powerless
Consuming like heartless acid
Eating but disintegrating

People crunched up the words
People averted their eyes from the beginning
Others stayed till the end
Enduring through the rubbish
Then turned their heads away for good
Glad it was all over

And still

Thoughts reveled in and out of negative pores
Glaring in silent fires
Flaring with false light

Unsure
Understood

Always burning
Yearning

Some great lines in this one. I loved the last part, Always burning yearning. It really tied it up well.

If poetry were acting, you would be an academy award winner and starlet of the carpet. If it were music, your concerts would be sell-outs. If it were food, people would be gorging at the table. But since your poetry is wisdom, I will continue to read it and savor it as long as I can see into the darkness. As Reese Witherspoon said in Legally Blonde , "This is so much better than that!" You are a gem!

I had to smile over this one. I think you are describing your own creative process and your audience with a "mildly" negative but consistent view. Of course, I may be totally in outer space. The beauty of your work sometimes lies in how it affects each of us. It takes me into strange places that are far away and yet familiar at the same time. There is a definite dark side to humanity. It is strikingly captured in your work. It should be required reading. Thanks for your lovely comments.

Play with fire...mmm, deep piece! I love the slightly ominous, yet powerful tone. You rock, Laura!
