SILENT ECHOES
She was a crow
A fountain of ideas and creativity.
But I was her reality.
She was everything I dreamed of,
But I was her worst nightmare.
A tortoise, in a tunnel, buried in my shell.
Life was a living hell for this friend I created.
She was the me the world couldn’t see.
I broke her wings, the scars still stings.
I was just five and a little bit shy.
Before I turned seven, Church was a safe haven.
In my Father’s house, I could be as shy as a mouse.
Was that why I was an easy prey for the predator
Who robbed me of my innocence so early? Did my timidity drive him on?
You were livid that day.
I cried for help but those words never left my mouth.
I felt ashamed, dirty and scared.
When you screamed, ‘NO!!’, I could only murmur it.
I should have let you out from the start.
But that's who I was, you I couldn't be.
We grew up with blurry vision and bottled up passion.
Each time you tried to make me glow, I burned instead,
Writing for another to perform.
That's so me.
At ten, I finally took the stage..
I watched you from the spotlight,
You stood still with the crowd.
I knew I was screwed the moment I bowed. You were gone and my confidence drowned.
That day I tore away a piece of me
Still, I found my kind,
And slowly, I learned to be you;
Young, daring, unafraid to speak
With the pen and paper,
Each day, I grew louder and bolder.
To them, I was a fountain.
To me, I was you.
Friend, were you angel or an echo?
Do you guard another shy child now?
Tell them: do not hide.
Give them no peace
Till they've said their own piece.
Our silence is both a shield and sword.
