Silence

Silence Life often lives in silence on tippy toes In the forest who hears the soft snowflakes fall Dew evaporating – the earth turning slow. Which ears discern the musical sunlight’s call Wistful ballads sung in shadows of stars - Platinum midnight dripping from moonlight’s shawl. As raindrops swell in clouds from afar What dulcet hues in twilight’s soprano intones – Orion’s deaf twinkle - dawn's silhouette. No rhythmic sounds of blooms in natal tones Nature muted as leaves return to earth While dreams lose their voices with laryngic stones. What sounds pulse from compassion’s birth? Who hears the agony of a heart breaking? Who hears a smile breaking out in mirth? Silent sighs reverberate in void’s girth Life often lives in silence on tippy toes Who hears the agony of a heart breaking, Dew evaporating – the earth turning slow. 4-5-22 Contest: Write a Terzanelle Sponsor: L Milton Hanks

So skillfully crafted Terzanelle....a difficult poetic form on the voice of silence that hardly anyone hears ! Indeed a poetic gem .... dear Sam !

Your lines contain so much evocative beauty of silence, I especially like 'shadows of stars' and 'raindrops swell in clouds' - makes me feel like I am in a moonlit meadow, smelling the rain in the air~

Thank you so much my friend. You always lift me up with your thoughtful, insightful, messages! Thank you for that gift. I love where these lines placed you - in a meadow bathed in moonlight! I started this poem many moons ago and just rediscovered it in my notes while looking for another poem. Re-reading my notes I realized, like you, the "evocative" beauty in silence and how so many miraculous things happen in silence! Take care. Happy Easter dear friend!

Thank you so much Janice. I really enjoyed the process of crafting this poem - a scrap of which I found in an old notebook - into the terzanelle exploring the depths of silence. I so appreciate your visit and your wonderfully supportive feedback. Sending you the blessings of creative silence.
