Shunned After Serving - a Veteran's Story
I did my time
I paid my dues
To come "home"
To be with you ...
I opened my heart
I was vulnerable to belong
I thought we were friends
But it didn't take long...
For you to step on my spirit
Painting pictures of lies
But you told me to go
Now I'm mad, I won't cry.
You shunned me away
I asked for forgiveness
And I'm saddened to say
But you won't kill my spirit!
Sometimes I think about it
How you stepped on my heart
Then told me to walk
But I can see through the dark.
How could people be so cruel
And twist every truth
There's video to show
There's evidence, there's proof!
I may not be welcomed
But I'll tell you this much
You can shun me today
But it won't kill this veteran's heart.
One day you'll see
This never had to be
You can throw me away
But I'll hold the key...not for you...
but for me.
