Shoot the Hootch

Shoot the Hootch O dear The raft is wild upon the flow I could walk across no fear If the active Christ said so I’d choose rubber or wood Back scratched by splinters Or stuck with you in childhood After shiver and shake Winters God could part the river wood To wood I’d race you then across slippery silt and driftwood You’d be amazed and praise Amen Shoot the Hootch It’s vividly spry Shade’s in the leaning branches In May the water is on a high And you’d no worry of avalanches God showed me hidden beauty met friend I stood scoped took in the riverscape In the sun and zephyr I’d mend Out in nature’s playground escape 5/7/2022

I would be amazed " I’d race you then across slippery silt and driftwood You’d be amazed and praise Amen" I am amazed!

Out in nature’s playground escape, sounds live a travel log... Beautiful rhyme. Try slalom on Castaic Lake, cross country skiing on Pine Knob, MI or tagin off of Mission Bay, S.D. or etc. done it all! been on everything, from a cigarette to a danzie, we owned a canvas top twin shoup motor, classic fishing boat only did 30 miles per hr. still skied off it! I called it The Compromise!

Creative work that you have penned in this one. Sometimes life is a wild raft, and we are not in control at all. Creative way to approach the topic. Thanks for your visit to my page. Sara

Loved this Kim. Really great imagery. I could see you paddling along the river with a friend enjoying the wildness of the country. Abd you didn't forget your BEST FRIEND either. Great stuff. God Bless, JB

Thanks, Judy! All my imaginings from the reminiscing of a new friend. I would love to raft the Chattahoochee! Perhaps one day. I did do the rapids in Alaska…that was quite the experience!

Well written, Kim. I really enjoy this read. Just the right amount of light poetry for me. Blessings, Bill

Shoot the hootch! Some of the simpler brews in life are the best -- the real top-shelf. There is a lot to be said, for growing up in the country, perhaps by a river, where families are tight-knit, and do not need computers to feel that their life is complete. I love this. You are a great poet/poetess (God, this politically correct bs!). Love the nearness to God recognized when less distracted by artificially cluttered city.

Thank you so much! Yes, let’s forget about semantics and just be genuine, my friend! So much easier when we can just talk. I appreciate your comment so much!

I like this - it seems unusual, maybe with the fairly different length lines, but it works really well, nice, Kim!

Just some thoughts from my visit last week to the Chattahoochee River. My friend reminisced about her teenage years where the lawn was packed with spectators and the exciting race back in the ‘70’s.
