She Was a Ruby In the Rough
She was a ruby in the rough.
Red when people were being mistreated.
Hot lava when she saw injustice.
Fiery and warm, orange and red.
A spectacular combination
of love and hope.
Internally, an earth angel.
Her outside edges were sharp and off-putting.
She had prickly points.
Many never got acquainted.
Shunning her because of her unusual face.
She had been through a bad fire.
Fear kept them from knowing her.
But for the brave ones and the wise ones
She was our ruby in the rough.
