She Was a Ruby In the Rough

She was a ruby in the rough. Red when people were being mistreated. Hot lava when she saw injustice. Fiery and warm, orange and red. A spectacular combination of love and hope. Internally, an earth angel. Her outside edges were sharp and off-putting. She had prickly points. Many never got acquainted. Shunning her because of her unusual face. She had been through a bad fire. Fear kept them from knowing her. But for the brave ones and the wise ones She was our ruby in the rough.

Sad that so many of these human jewels "in the rough" go largely unrecognized in life! Brilliant tribute poem! ;)
