MURAL PAINTED BY EVE ROPER
Emilia sits all alone and she reminisces
Of sweet romance and gentle kisses
She misses her husband; he’s away at war
Still she longs for him to be with her once more
Tears well up in her sapphire blue eyes
As she longs for his touch and she can’t disguise
The pain she feels deep down in her heart
over the many months they’ve been apart
She reads over his letters time and time again
He’s away on a mission and he can’t explain
where it is in the world that he’s been sent
But he sends his wages to pay their rent
Emilia gazes at the photos of their wedding day
and the collage she made from her scented bouquet
She still wears her blonde hair plaited upon her head
It’s the very same style she wore when they were wed
The silence is broken as their baby daughter cries
She has her mummy’s fair hair and her daddy’s blue eyes
Emilia picks up the baby from her nursery cot
and cuddles her gently, for now she’s all Emilia’s got
She sits alone Contest
