She Gently Touched a Soldier

" She Gently Touched A Soldier "

The little girl watched the soldiers
as they marched along the street
so skinny, dirty and tattered
she had no shoes on her feet.

Her long hair was all tangled
and her face was wet with tears
this poor child has seen more misery
than I will ever see in years.

She Gently Touched a Soldier
when he came marching by
I heard her asking him questions
that made me want to cry.

She looked up to this soldier
please help me understand
what good is a war of death
please tell me if you can.

I've searched and got no answers
all around this troubled land
I had to watch my mother die
while she tightly held my hand.

I watched the bombs begin to fall
there is no safe place we could be
I prayed to God in Heaven above
because I know that he loves me.

Do you really know how much it hurts
when our daddies have to march away
we have to watch our mommies
as they sit to cry and pray.

Do you know about the nightmares
that we suffer through each night
you are killing little children
and you know that its not right.

Do you ever say you are sorry
for us kids we are the ones
who die young prematurely
for what you grownups have done.

Please tell me how to make it stop
just take this war away
can't you see we are just kids
who want to run and play.

I am sorry mister soldier
I did not want to be a pest
but these questions I have to ask
to get them off my chest.

Now mister soldier I must let you go
to fight and kill some more today
one more thing I want to ask
before you must march away.

I picked these little flowers
all that I could find
please give them to my daddy
he is farther down the line.

Please say his daughter loves him
as she crys for him each day
may God be with you mister soldier
please be careful and I'll pray...

so very true and touching. I'm afraid war will always be. Is it one of the 5 horseman of the apocalyse? Light & Love

Very deep and heartfelt, true as well. I love our soldiers for they fight for our honor, I just hate that they have to fight at all, it breaks my heart and I really wish there was world peace. Very powerful words, Love Aleera

Too heartbreaking. The tears started to well up from the very beginning. Deeply moving poem of a very sad reality. Excellent rhyme and flow. Love, Shar
