Poem submitted to “X and Y” poetry contest, Seth Pina, sponsor, March 18, 2026
ice shards dangle~ each one a stalactite of silence waiting to be shattered. they don’t melt, just disappear, a breath exhaled too soon, a word swallowed before speech. embers are the orphans of fire, still murmuring in yellow tongues, still dreaming of ash. they remember heat but have forgotten how to burn. embers remember the weight of flame, ice shards dream of drowning in it. the world pauses, stuck between the sharpness of cold and heat’s hunger, both stubborn, unyielding.
