Pantoum
A poem with a verse form consisting of three or more stanzas. It has a set pattern within the poem of repetitive lines. The pattern in each stanza is where the second and fourth line of each verse is repeated as the first and third of the next. The pattern changes though for the last stanza to the first and third lines are the second and fourth of the stanza above (penultimate). The last line is a repeat of the first line of the poem and the third line of the first is the second of the last.
Under their blanket tent, sharing a smile,
two boys play online games past their bedtime.
Thinking Mom won't make her rounds for a while,
they hush each other when excitements climb.
Two boys play online games past their bedtime,
forging forever friendships that last.
They hush each other when excitements climb,
laughing and giggling; they're having a blast.
Forging forever friendships that last,
they challenge each other in games of skill.
Laughing and giggling, they're having a blast,
and if Mom hadn't joined them, they'd be there still.
They challenge each other in games of skill,
thinking Mom won't make her rounds for a while.
And if Mom hadn't joined them, they'd be there still,
under their blanket tent, sharing a smile.
