Shall I Compare Her To a Crimson Rose
Shall I compare her to a crimson rose?
Her petals glisten in the morning air;
on slender stem, her gentle beauty shows
as bright sun rays are shining through her hair.
Her tender fragrance drifts and fills the room
with scented freshness of a summer's morn;
a lovely blossom and one would assume
that deep within, her beauty would be borne.
But as I reach to touch her slender stem
and draw her closer to my yearning heart;
I feel the trueness of this garden gem,
a piercing pain which hidden thorns impart.
. . . How can someone with such beauty be
so diff’rent underneath from what I see?
We must remember that beauty is only skin deep, it’s what is within the
heart that truly matters.
