Notes About The Poem

Mark your calendar! A total solar eclipse provides the opportunity to see shadow bands, the diamond ring effect, Baily's beads, the chromosphere, the corona, and prominences. Other associated phenomena can make quite an impression:

shadow of the eclipse

Those soon undertaking their trips
To the April 8th total eclipse
Will see the moon cover
The sun and discover
The hotel supply this outstrips

If you want to see it Silent One, you'll have to come visit North America. If you decide to do so, let me know so I can guide you to the right spot. The path of totality will travel along the continent and it takes some research to find the right viewing area.

Karen, it's OK to write about anything. IMO it makes this a little more exciting. I am very lucky to have a good life that gives me the freedom to think about all these different experiences.

It's a happening if you can make it to the region of totality on April 8th. We're going to try traveling to the Buffalo, NY region if the weather looks cooperative.

My first visit, Duke, but I'll be back by to read more later. Great Limerick and very timely with the upcoming eclipse. Have a great day! Bill

Bill....I hope you are not disappointed if you come back. Much of my work rails against politicians and ills in society. I admit I criticize one wing more than the other. While both make mistakes, some are just egregious and deserve calling out. Have a great day!!

Yes Vijay....we plan on traveling several hours to get into the path of totality unless the weather causes us to cancel. It is really quite unusual and inspiring to see. The sun is the source of almost all the energy we have. What a magnificent little part of the galaxy we inhabit!

Oh, Duke, so enchanting! Thank you for your powerful yet kind reminder. Your limerick depicts the enigma of seeing a total solar eclipse in an utterly captivating way. It shows shade bands, the diamond ring effect, Bailey's beads, the chromosphere, the stars, and stunning highlights.

SP....it is usually a great time. We get to schmooze with people in another part of the country and share stories and good times. I hope you can make it to the party. It extends in a narrow band for several thousands of miles!

Anne-Lise, sorry it will be a North American event only. August 12, 2026 in southern Spain perhaps? Like many poems people post point out, the stars have a strange way to align.

I hope you’re within the region of totality. It’s worth seeing if you have the chance. I see you are recently posting on PS. Welcome.

Hilda, we try to please. I understand one Texas county has already declared a state of emergency regarding all the tourists they expect (Bell County). This will be quite a show!
