Shadow Eclipse
I looked around one sunny day
and found my pal there right away.
Lying flat upon the ground—
the only one I've ever found.
He copies every move I make—
always faithful, never fake.
Yet one day upon my morning walk
I turned to him for casual talk.
And watched before my very eyes,
he disappeared, to my surprise.
What a loss, my treasured friend.
How had he come to such an end?
Oh how I hate the sun's retreat—
leaving nothing at my feet.
I nearly cried out loud,
but it was just a passing cloud
that was the cause of this eclipse.
I urged my fists to ease their grips.
So if you see me looking down,
and on my face a dismal frown,
stop and give me your best smile,
and pause to chat with me awhile.
Then my own eclipse will end,
for I'll have found a brand new friend.
