September Roses Cling
September roses cling
Taunting Winter’s edge
Bask in the weary sun
Petals fall in homage
To the fattened pumpkins
Empty staring eyes
Thorns deny entrance
To sharp coyote nose
A squirrel saved
Winter waits
As beauty has her day
A cold farewell
