Self-Encounter

You run into yourself returning
From the place to which you had gone
And you stop to wrestle
But the other man refuses to fight
Your bloodshot eyes
Swivel in their sockets as you realize
You are no match
For the man in the mirror
A supposed legend
Because he refuses to engage
At your pathetic level
All the same you throw your best punch
Only to open your eyes and discover
He's no longer where he stood
You blink and hope that he returns soon
Because your questions need answers
