Notes About The Poem

Self Image

Picture you inside your mind
who you are and what you find.
Your image did not develop overnight
long and slow did your self image sight.

The picture is not in another mind,
what they perceive or what they find.
That image of who they think they see,
is not what your inner self might be.

Imposed by others, data may flawed be,
Your inner self they can not see.
Parents and peers, trauma and tears,
All shape self image through the years.

Picture you inside your mind
who you are and what you find.
Ask yourself if this picture is right and true,
is it exactly what God above says of you?

Thank you. The inspiration for this poem came from a book I am reading through called: "Who am I in Christ Jesus?". Specifically, this poem came from its 2nd chapter about developing a self-image.

So insightful and wise. Our true image may be different from what others can see from outside. In the same way what we think of ourselves may be shaped by other's opinions of us. That too cannot be our real identity. It needs a lot of introspection to find who we really are. A great poem, dear Miranda.

highly intelligent and charming. Everyone has their own perspective on us, but no one knows us on the inside. Wishing you a joyful new year!
