Self-Control

Too many bloodbaths have taken their toll;
when I look at the world, I'm brought to tears.
And too many sins have tainted my soul;
for me to find God in my later years.
I still see the wild animal in Man
that history confirms was always there.
Although we deny the truth when we can,
human atrocities are everywhere.
Genocide and blatant brutality;
only fuel Man's primitive urges.
When we imbue our immorality
with religious might, blind faith emerges.
As spiritual beings with a soul
we have yet to demonstrate self-control.
