Self-Control

Too many slaughters have taken their toll,
when I look at the world, I'm brought to tears.
And too many sins have tainted my soul
for me to find God in my later years.
I still see the wild animal in Man
that history reveals was always there.
And although we deny it when we can,
human atrocities are everywhere.
Genocide and blatant brutality
combine to fuel Man's primitive urges.
And we imbue our immorality
with religious might when blind faith emerges.
As spiritual beings with a soul,
we have yet to demonstrate self-control.
