Seeing With the Heart
On a corner near the road,
stood a man with a cardboard sign.
It said, “ I’m hungry, will work for food.”
I did not stop- I rushed right by
as others before me had done.
Then my heart cried out,
“Did you not see how thin he was?”
“Or the hopelessness that was there?”
Maybe God uses the hopeless to show you
another’s needs, and help them in their despair.
I drove around the block to the grocery store.
Then I took $20 from my debit card and got him
something to eat and a cold drink. Then I put the
rest of the money in the bag. I drove around the block
and gave it to him. He said, “God bless you, thank you.”
My heart was quiet now. It saw the need and
nudged me to do a good deed. Often we take
for granted our easy way of life and pass
right by others whose heart bleeds.
We see, but we don’t see, when we
could plant a lovely, kind seed.
