Secrets

Secrets are what kill us, hidden down deep within, Locked away in shadows, the harbor place of sins, They fester, and they grow, like germs in the night, A burden on our souls, until they’re shown the light. In the quiet of darkness, they are voices in your ear, Urging you to do bad deeds, it’s the secrets we hear. We dare not try elude them, or deny they be spoken, Like a never-ending cruse, that cannot be unbroken. They gnaw away our spirit, erode your sense of self, We live in constant turmoil, in our own private hell. For secrets are a burden, that we cannot bear alone, They eat at us from the inside until we’re overthrown. But it is not too late to turn, to confess our sins aloud, Free ourselves from secrets, the leg irons of the proud. Share your truths with someone, a kindred or a friend, For in the light of virtue, is where we all are cleansed.
