Seasonal Color
SEASONAL COLOR: Silent Mums
O saffron sun of summer, come melt my anxiety,
sneak the sparkle back into my hazel eyes.
Slowly, sans sandals, I breathe essential lavender.
My soul bathes in its field. My nose sends signals
to my brain, calming sensations, a cerulean breeze.
Outside its perimeter, i gratefully slide onto the grass
and peel a sweet, juicy tangerine, feeling its rind
slide from the fresh fruit. After refreshing my palate,
I rise and stroll past aromatic lemon plants. A double-dose
of vitamin c. I remain stress-free in my coral cotton dress.
I cut a dozen chartreuse chrysanthemums to place
in a tall blue vase. A lilac fence painted recently,
by my shaking hand, welcomes me home. My love,
back from war, offers me a juicy watermelon slice.
We smile, across the table, the mums silent, and
raise our champagne glasses, praying for peace.
