Seashells ~ The sun washed sands along the beach hid ocean gifts in drifting swells and tides would wash within my reach a bounty of abandoned shells. I'd walked those shores in search of all the endless wonders I would find, collecting trinkets, I recall, held by the shifting sands of time. My endless search unveiled the realm of nautilus and scallop shells and sand pails soon were overwhelmed with countless finds and fishy tales. Time moved on and I’ve since found that search continues in my mind and still those eager thoughts abound with all the treasures I could find. Those youthful days on sandy shores seemed endless in the summer haze and in my mind I still explore those seashell thoughts of younger days. Mark, it's not often that I get to a seashore, but when I do, I'm enthralled by the treasures that the sea gives up and yet takes away by its onrushing waves if not quickly discovered. Your write is wonderfully melancholy. Congratulations on having written a winning entry.

Dear Mark, I was swept up and away on the rhythmic swells of your exquisite poem. I, too, walked and searched the shore for shells (mostly scallop shells and hermit crabs) in my youth and reminisce of the "overwhelmed" sand pails now and again. The beauty of your poem brings me back to the beach once more. Such tender nostalgia so artistically expressed. Congratulations for your excellent win in Mark's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

How lovely this poem is, Mark: I love nothing better than beach-combing. Land locked now, but as you say the memories are there to draw on. Into my Fav’s. Best, SuZ
