Sears Wishbook--Page 123

I’d dreamed about it every night and seen it every single day in Sears and Roebuck’s grand Wish Book. I’d taken every chance to say, “PLEASE, Mom, PLEASE, Dad, write Santa.Tell him I’ve been good the whole year through! I wrote and told him what I want, but it can’t hurt to hear from you!” Then there I stood, and there it was— all red and shiny, by the tree-- that scooter I’d been wanting so from Wishbook, page one twenty-three. NOT a motorized scooter (This was 1960.) April 19 2018, entered in Line Gauthier's Early Childhood Memory Contest

Some folks might get the impression you are referring to a motorized scooter. I think you are talking about a foot scooter, the precursor to the skateboard, except it had handlebars. Let me tell you, they are work on a gravel road. lol I loved your nostalgic poem. Janice. Fond memories indeed!

Right--no motor; it was the early sixties! :-) And, yes, those gravel roads WERE a challenge. There were certain stretches of road where the gravel was sparse. Thanks so much for your comment, Daniel! Janice

A delightful memory, Janice. You brought back memories of my own red scooter and the joy of finding a much-wanted gift on Christmas morning. How wonderful it would be to go back... Best wishes in the contest, Janice!

Thanks so much, Mike, I'll never forget what that scooter meant to me. I had three siblings. I wonder how many paychecks my parents spent on us that year! Janice
