Searching For a Christmas Tree-Nursery Rhyme
Tony is six and sister, Grace, is three.
Today they're as happy as they can be
They grinned from ear to ear
Because Christmas was near
To the woods they would go to find a tree!
They were too excited and couldn't wait
After breakfast they climbed over the gate
'cross the meadow they walked
Happily, they both talked
About how this year Christmas would be great.
When they reached the woods, winds started to blow
It began to rain, which turned into snow
Blue skies darkened to gray
Grace's hat flew away
Tree branches were all swaying, to and fro
Grace was frightened when she saw two big eyes
Tony hugged her when he heard her cries
"It's just an old owl, Grace.
We're in her nesting place.
Watch and she will spread her wings when she flies."
Sheltered beneath the Christmas tree they'd found
They heard a dog barking, Diggs, their blood hound
Grace and Tony, safe at last
Night was darkening fast
Dad cut down the tree and they were home bound
That night, the tree glowed with bright twinkling lights
Dad and Mom said they'd given them a fright
"We're so sorry," they said.
Before they went to bed.
With their prayers said, they whispered, "Good night"
