Seafood That Makes Me Feel Guilty
SEAFOOD THAT MAKES ME FEEL GUILTY
Any swimming thing which boils or fries,
Like a codfish on shop icebed’s amazed eyes,
Open-mouthed - “Why me?” she sighs.
Crab in restaurant tank eyeballing
Me thru the glass watching him crawling,
Like Uncle Sam I point, “It’s you I’m calling.”
Canadian salmon trained to return the same way
Caught like dad last year in the same bay -
Why do they not learn new routes, eh ?
But no sturgeon complains - they only speak Russian.
But for me eating caviar eggs, the sturgeon
Numbers would exceed China’s population
Those shrimps with soft eyes pathetically
Staring keep me awake. The clan -
All innocent - look at me accusingly,
Asking, “Why are you cooking us, man?”
And glance at each other, ruefully
Nudging their brothers in the boiling pan.
