Sea of Tears

Feelings, I thought genuine,
were a concoction of lies.
And the memories we've shared
often bring tears to my eyes.

You easily deceived me;
allowing my hopes to climb.
Yet, love slipped through my fingers
like the shifting sands of time.

Your excuses weighed me down,
like a stone lodged in my heart.
Yet, I believed every word;
thinking that we'd never part.

Your betrayal converted
my elation into pain.
For your empty promises
let me down, yet once again.

In a sea of tears, dreams sank;
to the depths of my sorrow.
And wishes were abandoned,
to the whims of tomorrow.
