Scarlet

My finger twitched astride a shiny hair trigger,
with eyes caught in a scarlet gaze.

She stopped breathing, for just a moment
and then let her chest take in air,
exhaling what would likely have been fear.

She's well versed in survival.
I felt for a moment,
I was the one with the gun pointed at me.

"Go ahead." She said, painting her lips
with a shade of blood that I had seen before.

Every part of me that could speak,
was screaming at that itching finger
 ...willing it to speak.

But I wanted to know more
about this woman before me,
I had to know how she
got that stare.

I wanted her to breathe,
even though she was likely to kill me.

Even though she had deceived me,
her eyes told a story of truth

I had to hear.

This was actually inspired by an episode of "Firefly". There was a moment between two characters that really inspired me, I told myself I was going to turn this into a short story...but haven't yet.
