Say Goodnight Gracie

“Say goodnight, Gracie, say goodnight George.”
—Burns and Allen Show 1950-1958

Say Goodnight Gracie

found it
            it was snowing
on the sleeves
   of Buffalo
i’m a Winter gal
            except for
my old gal bones
that freeze
             euphoric
over flakes that fall
   zero
repeat zero
last year
            even Christmas
in Minnesota
   this Bills team
might go go go
             straight
to the Superbowl
and win win win
              our family dream
sure
  would
      put a smile
on the face of my Dad
make my sister extra crazy
   my other sibs
would be hanging from the chandelier
as I turned out the light
to watch it snow snow snow
                  Say goodnight, Gracie…
for one must
   after blowing off the lid
      the practical
blow the candles out
                   and eat the cake
but make no mistake
   her screams linger
let it snow snow snow
                    down my sleeves
make my day
                      please

Well just that one quote. George Burns lived to a good old age. He loved his wife, wrote a book about her. George also played in O God and its sequel. He was charming. Him and his wife had a variety show. They would joke around and this is how he ended the show, as if he was telling a wife that was talking too long at the door after a party. Blessings, Paige!

I'd 'hang from the chandelier' if you could bring back George and Gracie for just one more encore!

I remember the show with George Burns and his wife Gracie. There was some good humor there. Creative work you have penned in this one. Sara K
