Hi Andrea, So sorry did not see this comment till today am in a quandary - we are moving home, have to work and do my poetry - think I'm going crazy, have to cut myself in three and still can't get everything done - I haven't been able to keep up with answering comments or making them - should be back to normal in about 6 weeks time. Love and hugs, Jenny.

I grew up in a family of drinkers and as a result chose to not let drink rule or ruin my life. Life is indeed better when Sober.

Everything in life is a matter of choice, our upbringing has an absolute influence on our future but as we become older we can make choices for ourselves - your choice must have been hard due to the circumstances surrounding you - great choice my friend, Hugs Jennifer.

Someone who has lived with an alcoholic can truly understand the impact your Ninette makes Jennifer. Poignantly written in the grace of such few lines. I love your positive ending. Well penned! : ) xxoo

Thank-you Connie, you grace poetry soup with your presence! You are so right and sadly many marriages go through this, some survive, though not all. Thank-you for a thoughtful and soulful comment, hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

I have to admit I like an occasional beer or two or three (lol) but that's my limit, then I switch to scotch (lol) kidding. No need for soberness with me but I have a few friends that can sure use AA. Nice write Jennifer :) Hugs Charlie

You are so right Sandra, but for others it is just a bad habit that progressively gets worse. I it is awesome though to hear and see that they are sober at such an advanced age. Thank you for the comment Sandra, glad you enjoyed, I haven't been doing much lately on poetry soup because we are in the middle of moving house, we have sold my paternal home which was left to us and which between my parents and ourselves, have been living in for 50 years and the move is very emotional! Hugs, Jenny. Hugs, Jenny.

The secret for drink is moderation. Overdoing it is asking for 'trouble'. Hopefully your poem will have a sobering effect on those who don't admit to having a problem, Jenny. ~ Warm regards & Hugs // paul

Hello Jennifer Proxenos, it is okay to have a drink. Yet to have too many and get drunk, is not a good thing. I like the way you brought this poem from one extreme to the other. Have a nice day my friend. Hugs. Darlene.

Hi Ralph, Most of us do enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, but I was referring to an old man who in his nineties, decided to give up alcohol! Proud of my Uncle but totally lack understanding as to why this decision took him so long - he was overboard with his drinking for years. Blessings, Jennifer.

That is so sweet and kind my dear Panagiota , this ninette is about my favourite Uncle who is in his nineties and only gave up drinking recently because he wanted to live longer - just goes to show, it's never too late! Hugs dear friend. Jennifer.

Alcohol in moderation is fine, sad when you see some not knowing when to stop. Tom

I also believe the same Tom, one should be able to control their intake, as a social drink in the evening with your husband, wife or partner is relaxing, or also socially with friends. but when they can't, or haven't the willpower to stop, they can't have even a tiny tot, as this could ruin everything and take them back to step one again. Blessings Jennifer.

Hi Gershon, this refers to my brave uncle who lives in the UK and where too many pubs were his downfall - he has shown that it is never too late to change - now as sober as a judge! Hugs, Jennifer.
