Saturday Morning November 1964
My twin and I have a TV Guide in front of us
We are thrilled because we got a colored TV set yesterday.
In the TV Guide there is a peacock by the shows that are in color.
This will be the first time we have ever seen Under Dog in color!
We watch the clock. 
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Under Dog music starts.
A flying underdog flashes across the sky.
He is wearing mostly red; his cape is blue. 
My twin and I stare at each other.
“I thought his outfit was blue!” we both say.
We have only seen him in grayscale up until now.
Polly Purebred was a complete surprise too.
I had pictured her in green, and my sister thought she would be in pink.
She was dressed in blue.
We ate our soggy cornflakes in silence.
I felt betrayed. I am not sure how my sister felt.
It is like seeing a movie after you have read the book
and have pictured the characters completely different.

this is so funny, caren - i just posted a poem about tv from long ago! i enjoyed yours very much. i've had the same feeling about actors in a movie not being at all what i pictured when i was reading...

It is usually not the same thing. Weird when you meet someone after speaking to them on the phone for years and you had them pictured a whole different way.

Sesame st in the mid 70s, instantly sprang to mind, our first color TV and big bird was yellow, thank you Caren for bringing back that buried memory, fantastic poem, cheers David

Underdog and Sweet Polly voices were the late Wally Cox and Sandy Dennis, respectively. My first color set was also the first one with UHF channels (my old man for some unknown reason would not get a converter), and my first show seen in color was a 76rs game. You have another good write here.

Yes, I usually read the book and then see the movie and it always seems to me the book is so much better. I like this work of yours. I don't remember when we got a color TV but it was a long time after I was married and had children. Sara

When we got married we decide to get a black and white console tv because the color one we for the same money was so much smaller!
