Sailor’s Sunset

The sky broke like an egg into full sunset and the water caught fire. —Pamela Hansford Johnson Sailor’s Sunset Plummeting orb, hoary red sun, envelopes us - we’ve just begun. The ache of passion’s absorb. Hoary red sun, plummeting orb. The yolk baked ‘round the mammoth breast. In loping eyes, our love’s expressed. Infusion of colors, unbound. The mammoth breast, the yolk baked ‘round. Sailor’s sunset without warning. Safe and sound, moaning in morning. Life’s looking good from the onset. Without warning - sailor’s sunset.

I loved how you got the egg image from that cool quote into your poem. Well done and congrats

Kim, I remember the expression...red sky at night--sailor's delight. This is a beautiful description and quite emotional. You worked the inspirational line from PH Johnson with great care and skill.

Funny that it was her quote that I found last. I have a Peter Max painting in front of me that is just spectacular. :)

Your description sparks a memory of a most glorious sunset. It was a standdown evening on the carrier Coral Sea in March. The Gulf of Oman was smooth as glass as the sun set. Original and fetching Kim. Its potency awakened a fond dormant memory. My best, Robert
