Sage and Forgiveness
White sage burns in the new year
A higher power is summoned
For strength and peace of mind
I ask that we be free of pain
Smoke slowly sifts through the morning sun
As I cut the last ties that tether
And shed this mess of anguish as I grieve
The loss of one I hold so dear
My voice rings clear as I practice forgiveness
To myself for holding on for so long
I let go of hope that he’ll ever come back
Or that the feelings I imagined were real
Now I burn these words in the frigid air
Good-bye to his hold on me at last
The memories will fade deeper into the past
As these boundaries are set to restore
