at night
when cats stalk
and horned owls scream ~ 
hibernating dormice
slumber

A lot to think about in this little gem. And, that slumbering mouse, is hopefully dreaming of better things than being eaten. Difficult to believe that God made a world in which we are all the prey of something or another; even if escaped the jaws...time hunts us all down in the end.

What an interesting comment,Joe. Yes, I'm afraid I still can't bear to watch nature programmes where they show graphic pictures of 'the kill'. I tried to create the contrast here of implied threat and the safety and obliviousness of the mouse hibernating underground. Thank you so much for 'stopping by'.
