This or That, Vol 32 Poetry Contest

Sponsored by Edward Ibeh

"Running away from pitch of battlefield Is not creditable for a true man, Yet ahead of taking a reasoned view One needs to know whence runner is running And for which destination he`s running." - By author ************************************************************** Runner I have been a runner since my childhood Running away from the disease of pride Hunting for humbleness for what I stood Evading to take some one for a ride Dodging to take unfairly someone`s side Whether at the lowest or highest tide, I`ve been a runner since days of my youth Shunning away the messy maze of lies To reach the clean crystal clear lake of truth Away from vanity of butterflies To the plains of heartfelt humility In search of the gem of veracity, I`ve been a runner all through adulthood Running away from glooms of injustice To uphold what stands for right, just and good Avoid falling deep down in an abyss That could lead to the ditch of lawlessness And down the stinking well of truthlessness, I`ve been a runner all along manhood Evading the shore of hypocrisy To embrace glows of human brotherhood Spread the sparkling shine of sincerity Sustain the virtue of fidelity And spurn venoms of infidelity I`m still a runner with my hair turned grey To uphold the flag of integrity From all inequity to stay away And to sustain the shine of honesty Whether during the glimmer of daylight Or the dismal darkness of the dark night. I`ll yet be a runner till my last breath To stay away from the worms of hatred Until I depart from the mundane earth To uphold the flame of love as sacred And inscribe them in letters of gold As a mindful memento of my soul.
