“I’m so very bored,” Raisin said with a frown “Me too,” said Rum, “but with rain pouring down, It’s not like we get to go out for some fun.” Raisin said, “Will this rain ever be done?” Sat on the window sill, tail swinging slow Rum said, “Dear sister, I really don’t know.” Raisin leapt up to sit next to her brother She said, “Well, I’m going out, somehow or other.” Rum said, “It’s rain, which is water… and WET! We’ve been neck deep in it before, don’t forget.” Raisin said, “If we take Walnut, our doggie, We’ll stay dry beneath him, while Walnut gets soggy.” Walnut came up with his tongue lolling out, “What you two pussy cats talking about?” Rum said, “That weather’s a bit of a pain We want to go out but we’re all scared of rain.” Walnut looked hurt, so he prowled like a leopard Huh! Scared of rain? Not this German Shepherd.” Raisin cried, “Yippee… so long as you’re sure, The rain’s a bit harder than it was before.” Walnut said, “Let’s see who’s first to the door.” Rum winked at Raisin and leapt to the floor Raisin said, “Rum, you are one wicked feline Walnut is gonna wish he was a sea-lion.” They got to the door which was slightly ajar They looked through the gap but they couldn’t see far The rain was horrendous, and Walnut’s voice croaked “Are you cats crazy? We’re gonna get soaked.” Rum said, “O Walnut, you’re our hero, but… Has the rain made you a cowardly mutt?” Walnut stood proud and said, “Cowardly? Never! No German Shepherd is scared of the weather.” So, using one paw, Walnut opened the door To find it was raining, now, more than before He said, “This rain can’t stop us having a lark, Get underneath me, we’ll go to the park.” And so Walnut walked like a canine umbrella Beneath him, Rum said, “He’s a half decent fella.” Raisin said, “I think we’ve been rather cruel, For treating him like he’s some oversized fool” Poor Walnut’s coat was soaked through to his skin And a wet German Shepherd looks ever so thin But Walnut’s compliance was merely a ruse And those cats would soon walk a mile in his shoes And then Walnut’s voice, “It’s stopped raining my friends, And Raisin cried, “Even the worst weather ends.” Rum said, “So, let’s dump this mutt and have fun, Who knows, we might even see us some sun.” But then Raisin saw Walnut’s trick was a belter The rain stopped because they were under a shelter Rum said, “Hey, Walnut, what game are you playing?” Walnut said, “I’m no dumb mutt… only saying.” Then he said, “Jump up; the sky is less black.” Raisin and Rum leapt up on Walnut’s back They studied the rain and the duck pond beyond Then Walnut sprang forward and into the pond When they emerged, sodden, covered in slime The banks were too muddy for kittens to climb But Walnut stepped out in one unhindered stride Then pulled Rum and Raisin up onto the side Rum was bedraggled, he said “What the heck?” Raisin said, “We’re both drenched up to the neck” Walnut just grinned and said, “Cats should consider, High-jinks is one thing… but don’t kid a kidder.”

Thanks, Paula. I’m low on inspiration right now so I thought I’d give Rum and Raisin (and Walnut) another outing. Glad you enjoyed. Terry
