Raisin said, “Let’s write a poem,
Let’s try to make everything rhyme
A Limerick; maybe a sonnet
Let’s write it in double quick time?”
Rum said, “Let me get us started,
I’ll make it an everyday tale
And if we write something artistic
An agent might put it on sale.
“We will have to keep it in memory
For kittens cannot hold a pen
And despite recent hype, we can’t even type
So let’s limit stanzas to ten.”
Those kittens sat ‘writing’ together
All day and well into the night
And when they were done Rum asked whether
They should edit or even rewrite
Raisin said, “No, I don’t think so,
Let’s run through again and decide.”
Her recital was ‘read’ and, nodding, Rum said
“That should impress poets worldwide.”
So Raisin had thoughts that were forming
A plan that was worthy of note
“Let’s say it aloud in the morning,
So ‘Mummy’ can hear what we wrote.”
At seven a.m. the alarm clock
Awoke mum and dad from their rest
They silenced the clock and got quite a shock
As Rum gave the poem his best
Well, mum and dad listened intently
As their kittens recited away
“I think,” said their dad, “Those kittens are mad!”
For this was their poem that day….
Meow, meow, prrrr, mew, meow
Prrr, mew, meow, prrr, mew……….
