Riding the Scales

rules must be made for both sides - Libraic scales mind equilibrium

equal length
pan holders - no unfair weights, no pandering
justice must not take sides
judges should not be stuck in pockets; moneywise
dressed - for success, not their own
scales are not a see-saw, not a slide
papers read the same in each pan
a woman is a woman, a man is a man
both seek truth; liberty is watching
remember well the book on their heads; straight backs
Congress and Senate stay within their own branch
powers are kept separate
sound minds prevail

if a party’s at its precipice, what happens when the weights released?

I like this! Unsolicited advice: If you left out the single lines (first and last--they come across as specific and speculative, decreasing comprehensibility [for the reader] and applicability), it would be publishable and would likely perform well on social media.

A very good poem with pertinent innuendos. We need fair justice more than ever. Thanks, I agree with the meaning.

I heard somewhere that there is no such thing as 50% if it's 50 50 there is no room for God!

Interesting but not sure how it applies. The justice system should not be about parties but about knowing, researching the law and applying it with fairness. Thank you for your comment. God is over all. Blessings ~ Kim

This is intriguing. I'm not very political, but that does not mean I didn't get a lesson from this poem. I do know our freedoms are slowly being compromised....clever ppetess <3

Balance requires logic, sanity~~often absent now and getting worse! Well-done, Kim, thought-provoking. Janice

I think it only can be downhill. I don't think it will bounce up. LOL..Good one. I enjoyed reading it. Is it the same for our nation as we once knew it? Sara K

There is a reason for separate powers. We should be suspicious when there is no balance. No answers forthcoming…I remember when you hd to answer. Be suspicious when words are given to the media on repeat. This is not thought-filled, no debate…this is not how America is thought to operate. Stifling thought and conversation is not freedom in action. Thank you, sweet poet, for reading and commenting.
