Rhubarb

My husband bought a little treat, A favorite thing I love to eat. We rarely see this anywhere So take advantage when it’s there. I never ate this in my youth For what’s inside, to tell the truth, Is something that did not compute – It seemed more veggie than a fruit. I’m talkin’ rhubarb, as in pie, With strawberries to satisfy My taste buds, waiting to explode; Of course, this will be a la mode. If you have never sampled this, You’ve missing out on certain bliss But if my tastes you do refute, We’ll have a rhubarb (a dispute)!

I'm having a proper Ilene night - I'm just amazed how much you have written and the themes that you cover so well - keep it up kid.

Hey Dennis! I don't know how you found my poems on this site but I am delighted that you're reading them! Thank you for your supportive comments. When I'm back at home I'll have a look at your writing (which I assume is on this site, too) and will be able to return the favor.....

No dispute here. My folks had rhubarb in the back yard. I wish I would have transplanted some before we sold the house. I started making rhubarb pies after my Mom passed and haven't since Dad passed. :( And of course, ala mode.

Oh, one of my favorite late spring pies, Ilene. I grew up with it on my grandmother's farm and ate it raw with salt. I make my own with strawberries and it also makes a great sauce with ginger for roast pork. Thanks for the stop by. / M

This was wonderful Ilene and brought back some very fond memories. My grandmother used to grow rhubarb in the back yard and she would make rhubarb pie for the family. She loved her rhubarb and was very proud of her baking skills. I never let her know that I didn't really like rhubarb, but I think she could tell. :) Loved this Ilene.

P.S., but when she would pick fresh pie cherries from the neighbors tree and make a cherry pie, that was my favorite. :)

Your poem really made me smile as I love rhubarb and hubby hates it so I no longer grow it in the garden BUT my friend gives me a supply which I stew with some powdered ginger - mmmm and I love making it onto crumbles - oh Ilene I am salivating now lol:-) Hugs Jan xx
