Reserving the Right
What happened to Chivalry?
I believe women plotted to kill him.
stabbed him in the back
while he leaned over affectionately.
He was merely asking
for attention, showing compassion.
And she, in her frilly gown, showed
him the moon.
Pointed out the stars
with one hand
and made him suffer
with the other.
Chivalry was never in need of wit.
Charmed all who wanted
woo.
Like the red delicious, it wasn't enough.
Females expected him to be there
to take
tongue-lashings for payment
in exchange for his forethought.
Women weren't ready for
such admiration
it went to their heads
and fornicated with jealousy.
Still He persevered
Still he hung around,
Smiling in the presence of a lady
Without thought.
He became saddened.
always expected to do,
or say. assumed warranted.
Stripping him
of the stature of a gentleman
to the stand-still
of a sentry.
Nowadays, he is a
prisoner to women
of power, who demand his presence;
being told when to be himself.
Waiting for the chance
to be appreciated,
the chance to be welcomed
with shocked expressions.
Just to be acknowledged,
surprised by anothers actions
their reciprocity.
the warmth of humanity.
He lays dormant
in the soul of all men;
who, only they, can
invoke his charms.
His uncanny kindness
and willingness
to be selfless.
