Remembrance

There was once a girl. In a way, she had her own little world. Although she had all a child would ever need, she sometimes felt so alone. Even with the few people in her life, she still hoped for more. As she grew though, she slowly learned she can’t have everything. She especially learned that things always change. Sometimes it was even through painful experiences, that she learned these lessons life brings.

Just as everything was changing, little could she tell, she changed as well. As a young child in school, she made plenty of friends. Eventually however, even her friends themselves changed. She sadly began to gradually grow apart from them. It was then she learned the meaning of distance. Sometimes, she would also feel so sad about things happening between those she knew most. At times, it even felt as though she had no one to turn to.

Eventually, her once friends turned peers, began being of poor character. Although their words may have hurt at times, she knew they can never win. She knew it was best to never let them in. Unfortunately this sense of independence came at a price: loneliness. Yet in spite of however she felt, she was strong enough to bear with it.

Soon enough, she befriended someone she always knew, but was never close to. It all began with a silly question and an exciting invitation. Together they had many good times. Sometimes, however, these girls would also get on each other’s nerves. Soon enough she was met with the risk of losing her friend for good. But deep down they knew what they meant to each other. Little did she know, her friend very much appreciated her for having reached out.

That girl felt as though her life was changed, because she was relieved of a loneliness of her own. Eventually the two friends reunited. But what they weren’t aware of, was how it became a little too late for them. Seemingly by a cruel fate, they were transferred to different schools. Slowly their time together faded. She found someone new, who seemed to fill the other’s absence so well. Still, it was as though she was going through a dark night of the soul.

She missed her old friend, wondering, “how can I ever let her in again?” She knew from since a young age, that things always change. Sadly she was reminded how it felt, in realizing she can’t have everything. Still, she held onto a gleam of hope, for the chance of finally knowing what she means to someone else. She never knew it, but there were nostalgic feelings which stirred, for her.

It was then, she learned people never change, that there are only sides of them you’ve never seen. For even with the past long gone, they were still so familiar. Indeed, it was more or less their lives had changed, than it was their bond, if at all. Without the other, she learned inner strength through her loneliest hours. They in fact became much closer than ever. It was in knowing this, they realized meeting the other, made a difference for them. That once young girl, was you.
