Remembering Who We Are
REMEMBERING WHO WE ARE
Spiralled rainbows !
burnished tapestries of trials
Birth, love, death ripen
Winds of Change for our country’s call
Battles in a corner buried, we haul
storms or it’s enthralls …
Falcons swoop on soldier graves
nostalgic letters root vines brave
Journey through brazen ages
petals dangle blood upon our sages
Speeches in shanties, songs on stadiums
nurturing a southern palladium !
Haversacked youngsters climb noisy taxis
searching for devices or cheap fancies
Turquoise beaches beckon while hot sweet
potatoes entice from rusty backyard braais
Grass grows in thunder on mielie farms,
where bending we plant, sweaty arms !
Verses, emotions, lamentations, directions
buildings up in flames, students marching
Ministers preaching, Divinity arching as
tears fall upon ashes when we lullaby
for the lives of Oumas, mothers, babies
rising and unfurling in unspeakable maybes
Ambitions fly in spaces we read between lines
Manoeuvring, thanksgiving, we observe
think, create, act, leap in awe as
Sun appears on mountains or in curves
We empty ourselves, we empty ourselves
To Love Life as it deserves !
