Refleksie

'k kyk neer rivier
wat kronk'lend paaie baan
in dalle vloer
afgemat en steeds geboè
poele plas en blitsend 'kaats
drenkend dans palmiete gras
soos manne kras in kroee
dalk net dromend was
my refleksie in jou oè
Iris geruit as wimpers sluit
was binne-in my hart getoor
en bloedriviere in ons are bruis
vuurspuwend ons in lawa doop
die magma braak in kers se was
dog rooiend en bloedend soos ons passie was
eiland swart en eenkant ek
omring atol n trane oseaan
wat reent verkoeld tektonies bars
in woorde was so onbedoeld
was dit gans so ongehoord
Helaas!! KEER DIT VOOR!
..en eggo steeds nog minder so

I check every few days, hoping for a new post ... someday I will buy you a drink, My Friend, and we will speak of when we were but foolish poets, tossed to the four winds, and dreaming of better times. Please stay safe and well, Brother! - G

Hi Jannie, I thought I would look up your poems as Cay Cay brought you up in soup mail to me - she hopes you are safe! We live just outside Johannesburg, whereabouts do you stay Jannie? Your poem is magnificent but my husband translated the Afrikaans version to me as I am Greek and know little of the language, but your English translation is pure joy - a beautiful write Jannie, Blessings, Jennifer.

bloody bloody HELL. Is google translate ever accurate? What it's giving me is kind of off the richter scale, but I really do not know if what it is giving me is what you wrote. Can you please email me the deal in English? I'm chaffing at the bit here. Lovejoy-Burton

(2) I have a good friend, (actually my pharmacist in the store that use to be my family's - I was a pharmacist at one time also), who is also from South Africa, and except for his wife and two kids, the rest of his family is still there ... he gives me regular updates, and things are rarely what he considers "encouraging" there. I think of you every time I see him, and I pray you and yours are well. I am determined to meet you one day, my friend - it rocks my Bucket List! Blessings, Brother!

(1) Exquisite, my friend, and that's the translation, I'm sure the original is even more stunning, and it makes me want to learn the language just to read your wonderful poem! (I speak German and know much Spanish, some French and Tagalog, and little bit of Arabic, but only the first on a decent level, ha!). I SO miss your regular visitations, Dear Friend, and our little chats, (are we hooked on FB?). And while I love your comments, I'd love just a note, if you can manage it! :-)

WoW! LOVE this poem and the Afrikaan Dutch translation, Jannie. Love the ending doubly so. (Ty, Connie for the assist.) Such a lilting sway this poetic waterfall has. Stay drenched, my friend ... in creative waves of illumination. Magnificent poem, per your usual excellence, dear friend. Love and best wishes always.

Btw ... I live in Highland Park, Michigan. It is a city within a city (it is nestled inside Detroit.) Although, it is a northern clime ... it has the four distinct seasons, and that is always wonderful annually to experience. Love and hugs, baby.
