Reflections of Life

The morning mirror shows my aging eyes;
a dim reflection of what used to be.
With woeful trepidation I surmise
that I’m approaching final destiny.

As time’s relentless ticking marches by,
I start to think about that fateful day;
my presence here will bid a fond goodbye,
but will my memory be here to stay.

Will future generations know my name,
or will I be someone that time forgot;
I worry, did I live without acclaim,
and then I’m tempered by this final thought…

     long past the day these weary bones have gone,
     my humble poetry will still live on.

Hopefully we all have a long while yet to enjoy each others poetry and comments and replies. Death is inevitable, but life is short, so let us enjoy what we have left and encourage each other forward. Intense and beautiful write John, so well penned. Hug and blessings, Jennifer.

Yes it's an age old question, but I guess if we've done some good we will be remembered. I understand what you mean, I'm slowly not recognizing myself and the mirror tells the truth, sadly. Your beautiful words John, will be remembered without a doubt!

The soul of a poet lives on and our eyes might look tired in the mirror but when they smile at life there is a beauty that nothing can outshine.....especially a lovely glass of wine. Enjoyed this beautifully expressed introspection. SuZ

Yes, there is that consolation. Our words live on, especially our poetic words. Blessings, John (And here's to sticking around for a while). ~ Gershon

Time moves along, and we move with it. Age likes to follow.. (If only we could stay Young) However, in these moments and minutes- memories made. Life is worth the living. "Will future generations know my name?" Yes!! They will my dear friend. Your thoughts hold so many emotions. This is beautiful and tender, all at the same time. ~ Brandy
