Recipe For Creating a Popular Poem

Start with a whole bunch of seashells.
Add sand, and maybe a lighthouse.

Stir in some fish, and maybe some seagulls
hovering over the rocks in the distance.

Humans are optional
but try to add children
building sandcastles on the beach.

Then make sure you emphasize
how the tide will wash them away
and how life is like that,
boo hoo.

I've written many poems about the sea, none had seashells or children, all had a least one human, mostly feeling small in context with the sea..my first thought after reading your interesting poem
