Quiet Summer

It's been a quiet summer since Davy's not around Just doesn't seem the same anymore We used to play in this park at night Now I don't know what I come here for. When you're thirteen, you're going to live forever You never worry about tomorrow You dream of knights and kings, heroes and villians There are no thoughts of pending sorrow. Last year, they found a spot above his ankle And tested to find what it might be Six months later they removed his leg A few inces above the knee. We played hide and seek and king of the mountain We'd play chase tag, kickball and wrestle on the ground Cancer took him in the early spring It's been a quiet summer since Davy's not around. It's much more tragic when cancer claims our young ones... so much vibrant life snuffed out by this terrible condition. A fine piece, wistful and poignant. Best wishes, Keith
