"The quality of a question is not judged by its complexity,
but by the complexity of the thinking it provokes."
~ Joseph O'Connor
I question why the sun seems to sink in the sea
when after his laborious work day is done
And why does the moon fade like a reverie
when her golden light has all been spun
I query why stars die in great bursts of glory
and I wonder where their twinkling bits go
Flowers withering quickly, I question the story
and how some can live buried 'neath the snow
Why do beautiful blooms live only for days
then begin to die as petals fall to the ground
but their progeny lives on, their substance stays
alive from seeds left behind, and will abound
I'd inquire of the sun himself, if it's surprising
that he wakes to embrace the Earth at dawn
and if he's sad not to witness the moon rising
Why do I start weeping when I see a lone swan
How beautiful things perish before their time
I question the reasons why and so many more
Such glorious things we think are truly sublime
These wondrous things that we cannot restore
