Jesus searched for disciples in the Middle East
came up with Thomas Mark Mathew and John
quite a leap of faith from the dessert to London
with bridges burning and not a bush in sight
oh ye of little credence and where was the editor
but of course perspective loses out in translation
People want no nonsense deities beyond reproach
simplicity to understand even if the garden path
leads them to a snake devouring an apple instead
of The Little Prince’s hat when the boa constrictor
swallowed a huge elephant in the allotment shed
God is dead, remains dead and we have killed him
patricide as Freud suggested and bonking the mother
Sex and aggression played out in crusades and battles
a dominatrix in leather and steel armoured weapons
whipping natives into submission and tough shackles
prison guards salivating while browsing through ****
Some try a kind Universe despite its black holes
pray to the Sun Moon and Stellar Convictions
relieve witches from drowning when stakes burn
in unequivocal desire for Peace and loving kindness
something to hold on to when searching for a Self
book a pilgrimage to Stonehenge somewhat unhinged
but better the devil we do not know than Satan
Am I an atheist when I bet on Science and Philosophy
switch the light on in Plato’s Cave and stoke the fire
of good reason sound premises and valid conclusions
seek tolerance moderation and harmony with emotion
balance the books with cognition and feeling and do not
bow to false dogmatic idols and punitive divinities
When Jung meets world conscience and evolution
Darwin reads from the pulpit and turns temple tables
Kant relishes the contest with existence before essence
and the poet Camus is no stranger to a meaningless life
on Kerouac’s road diverted by Frost in the forest
of dreams in which Tarot Cards wield archetypes
which of course were prohibited from the saving Arc
While Nirvana and Apocalypse Now fight it out
in times of delusion victor’s justice and fallacies
I remember that the Promised Land is at War with
equality social justice and fair allocations between
haves and have nots and there is no win-win situation
Of course my life seems much more complicated
as a doubter who cannot hide behind Churches
or sanctified burial grounds of hopeful delusion
but the earth is not flat or I’d fall of the edge
